How's everyone faring in the aftermath of the storm? We lost power on Sun.
morning so yesterday I decided to take the boys to my brother's in NJ. Right
when I entered the state, our power came back on! So I'm here visiting for
a couple of days. Very mild weather here today. I ran 6 miles - w/u mile
and then repeated twice - mile at 30 sec. less than MP and mile at 30 sec.
slower than MP, then c/d mile. May go home tomorrow. Ate way too much Halloween
candy!!

Hi Everyone,
We just got our power back. Ran with Lee this morning. He doesn't have internet
access. Hope you have power. We will be running the 1/2 marathon on Saturday.
Lee says hello to all. Hope to see some of you on Saturday.

LMC - Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 14:13:26 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I have just a brief moment for an update - I still have no power or home phone
and have been working round the clock at our warming shelters. Haven't run
all week. Don't know if I'll make it to the Ghost Trail run on Saturday.
My office is without power so our operations have moved to the Senior Center.
Hope everyone is ok!

bk - Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 13:43:18 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Hi everyone. I am finally able to check in. We have been out of power since
Saturday afternoon, and the entire Farmington Valley is a mess. The access
to our house was blocked by fallen and downed power lines until Tuesday when
the chain saws came out. We expect to be out of power beyond the Sunday projection.
The power lines from the street to our house came down, so we have to get
our electrician over to reconnect the house to the line. I have been having
my showers at the town shelter or at work. Dave came home on Tuesday night,
and on Wednesday, traveled to New Hampshire to get our friend's generator.
It is hooked up and we now have power and heat! Anyone without (or with)
power is welcome to come over. As far as running is concerned, I'm not sure
I know how to run anymore. I did two miles before the snowstorm to test my
leg. It was not great, but not terrible either, and I felt like an addict
getting a fix. With the days off this week, my leg does feel better so I
am hopeful about getting back to running. Even if the snow melts on the trail
(which it should), it will be littered with fallen trees and limbs, and who
knows when and if this will be cleaned up.

tlv - Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 23:40:38 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Sorry to hear that some are still without power - Lee reported that the temp.
in his house is 52. Brrrr. I think Lea was still in the dark as of yesterday
and working her tail off at the shelter. Brent said Middletown was hit hard
as well but I don't know his current power situation. Glad you got a generator,
Barb! I'm sure Barry is going to want to buy one for the future. Good point
about the trail at Brickyard. Could be a good obstacle course though. :)

I did a short 5 miler today/9:42 pace. I can't believe I'm running another
marathon next Sun. - seems surreal. I just got a book delivered from Amazon
today, "Finding Your Zone - Ten Core Lessons for Achieving Peak Performance
in Sports and Life." I'll give you all my review after I finish reading
it and lend it out to anyone interested. Be well everyone.

LMC - Friday, November 4, 2011 at 17:01:03 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I got power back last night at 5:45pm. BUT, the power surge killed our fridge.
A new one is coming on Monday. So far I have worked 71.5 hours this week.
I have to work Saturday and Sunday, too. So, no Ghost Run for me. Bummer,
because I really wanted to run it! Hopefully shelter work will be done on
Monday and I can start running and exercising again on Tuesday.

bk - Friday, November 4, 2011 at 17:40:01 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

For anyone planning to come to Brickyard, the trails are probably not passable.
The tree damage in Avon, Farmington and Simsbury is very extensive. None
of these towns have power back to any extent.

lrb - Friday, November 4, 2011 at 18:24:07 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Hi Everybody! Finally posting here. Have to look @ my handwritten record to
remember what I did this last week.
Ran about 7 w/ the "Kingdom Krazies" on Sunday. Ran about 5 w/ Rose in the
Highcrest area on Tuesday. Did an abbreviated "'nihilator" on Wednesday (45
minute run). Took yesterday and will take today off. Have been wondering
how Brent's 5 miler in Kent went but obviously it never happened (storm)
and see that it's been rescheduled for Saturday November 12 ("Harrisburg
- 1"). I'm planning on being @ Brickyard on this day and on the following
Saturday, the 19th. The Wallingford Turkey Trot 5 Mile is the next day. Mari
is doing Manchester and Tray (Rose) are talking about doing Malibu. I'll
be in Vermont and will run a 5K in Barton on Thanksgiving Day. Eddie's "race"
is on Sunday, the 27th. Thinking we should all replace the regular Saturday
Brickyard run w/ this. Of course this all depends on the condition of the
trail (snow? trees?).

Good to here from Barb, Lea, Tray and Rose (it's been a rocky road for us
all for a variety of reasons). Keep the faith.

tlv - Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 01:26:32 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Last "long" run before the big day next week - 11 miles/9:40 pace. Listened
to an audiobook about the NY firefighter who was hit by a bus and literally
ripped open. Not only did he live, he recuperated and completed the Lake
Placid IM in 2009. Amazing stuff.

Bk - Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 12:23:34 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Loved the pics from the run you all did. we are still without power. Maybe
today?

bk - Monday, November 7, 2011 at 14:52:55 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Hello everyone. The trail has been officially closed with signs at the street
crossings. Dave and I took a run in the new part of the trail in Canton.
It was relatively clear but we did have to jump over or go around or under
some fallen trees. We are still without power and hoping that it does come
on by Wednesday. Dave has an appointment to have his knee reassessed as it
is still swelling with activity. My leg is better but not great. Tracy, good
luck in the marathon-enjoy every mile. You will do great.

Saturday December 17. Would anyone like to join me?

LMC - Monday, November 7, 2011 at 19:21:58 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Hopefully I can get back into a normal routine - starting tonight! The plan
is to get out of work ON TIME, go to a 1 hour pilates class and then do a
quick 3-4 miles on the treadmill. I did hear that the trail in Hamden/Cheshire
is open (there is a start at Skiff Street in Hamden, by the Stop and Shop),
so if anyone is looking for a trail like Brickyard they can head down this
way....

tlv - Monday, November 7, 2011 at 19:58:34 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

5.5 mile run/9:19 pace - what a gorgeous day out there!

Barb, sorry to hear that your power is still out. Hope your ordeal is almost
at an end. Too bad about the trail at Brickyard. If and when they get around
to clearing it, we'll probably get snow to render it impassable again. Thanks
for the good luck wishes at Harrisburg - I'm feeling good about it. Keep
us posted on Dave's knee.

LMC - Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 14:28:27 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I've had a good week so far - Monday was an hour pilates class plus 3.25 miles
on the treadmill. Last night I did 6.5 on the treadmill during a very high
intensity treadmill class. I had no idea the treadmill went up to a 15% incline!
Tonight I run outside with the Wallingford Hartford Track Club group - probably
looking at 7 miles or so. I want to practice the Turkey Trot course before
that race on the 20th. Are we meeting at the school in Wethersfield on Saturday?
If so, can someone email me the address again?

lrb - Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 17:38:12 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Distance: 6.93 mi
Time: 1:12:17
Avg Pace: 10:26 min/mi

This was done this morning on the Vernon trail.

Lea - looks like we'll be switching over to Highcrest this Saturday. Address
of the school is

95 Highcrest Road, Wethersfield, CT 06109

We'll be starting at the usual time: 8 AM.

Here's what I've done since I last posted here:

Saturday: Ghost Run - 13.1 - 1:45+ (2nd in div.)
Monday: 7.71 - home to Scottish Rite course and home again - slow
Tuesday: 5 miles on NHS track w/ Judi, Rose and Linda - slow

The power is on @ Tunxis so I'm working this evening. Linda and I watched
the NYC marathon on Sunday and had dinner w/ Tray and her kids @ Red Robin
that nite.

Looking forward to seeing people @ Highcrest. Of course we'll be thinking
of Tray who'll be en route to Harrisburg for her marathon on Sunday. Gave
her "Without Limits" DVD (Steve Prefontaine) and built a Chariots Of Fire
page.

Did 4.5 miles/9:23 pace. One more short run tomorrow and then 2 days of rest.
I'm feeling pretty psyched. Left heel is a little bothersome but screw
it. The rest of me is in tip top shape and ready to roll. :)

LMC - Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 13:15:31 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran a good 6.5 miles last night outside. Perfect weather. Can't wait for my
new safety vest to come in - the cars last night were a little too close
for my comfort. Thank goodness 75% of my run last night was on sidewalks.
No running tonight, just pilates class. See everyone on Saturday - I'd like
to run 10 miles @ a 9;45-10 minute pace.

lrb - Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 18:44:16 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran about 10 @ Highcrest w/ Mike Taricani, Lea & Rose on Saturday. Lynda Jaeger
tried to hook up but had the directions wrong. I broadcast that we'd meet
@ Reservoir #3 next Saturday @ 8 so maybe we'll see her there then. Linda
walked while we ran.

Ran from home to Old Wethersfield this morning. Wanted to wish Bob Dacey
well @ the 5K. Larry Chaves, Peter Drakopoulos and Kc Klett ran. I ended
up running it as well and did about a 23:36. Kc got a PR w/ a time of 18
and low change.

Waiting for Tracy's report.

Looks like the Brickyard trail may have been cleared. I will try a short run
there tomorrow morning and let everyone know the condition. This morning,
Dave and I ran on the newer part of the trail in Canton. It had been cleared
of the fallen trees.

LMC - Monday, November 14, 2011 at 18:46:38 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

6 miles yesterday - practiced the Wallingford Turkey Trot route. Beware of
the big hill starting at mile 1.2! I measured it at a good 3/4 of a mile.
After that, the course is slightly downhill/flat. Total miles for the week
was 31.75, plus 5 miles of walking and 2 pilates classes. This week will
be a little lighter since I have to teach a CPR class tomorrow night. Still
want to keep mileage between 30 and 35 throughout the winter.
Congrats Tracey on a great marathon!
What is the plan for the weekend of Thanksgiving? Are we still going to meet
at 8am at Brickyard/Wethersfield?

MCT - Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 12:38:09 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran a solid 7+ miles this morning down through Bristol. 7.1mi in 1:05:27.
I was feeling good and the weather was perfect. Today was one of those days
where everything clicked and felt good. Early in my training for Hyannis
but I have to start getting longer runs in mid week instead of weekends only.
Saturday I'll do the 8K XC but will probably join the group at 8am for that
run as well. Route map - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/128839198

tlv - Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 19:18:37 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Thanks Lea! Wow, I was wondering why you're running so many miles. Preparing
for anything special over the winter? No running for me right now. My body
has completely had it and now I feel like I'm fighting off illness. After
more recovery next week, I hope to build to maybe 25-30 miles/week consistently.
I am available the Sat. after Thanksgiving, if you want to plan on meeting
at Brickyard.

Mike, it took me a minute to figure out who was posting. Welcome to the
log and to the Brickyard group! Look forward to meeting you one of these
Saturdays.

LMC - Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 20:46:51 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Tracey - no big races over the winter, just Colchester in February. I just
want to keep my fitness up over the cold months. Turns out I can't run on
Nov. 26 (Sat), but can on Friday, Nov. 25 if anyone wants to do a "Black
Friday" run. No running tonight (teaching CPR at Southern CT State U).

lrb - Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 21:54:27 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran 5 w/ Judi, Rose and Paula @ Judi's place in Farmington. Will run Manchester
Road Race course tomorrow w/ my Vernon group. Will do 5 w/ Tray @ Southington
HS track on Thursday. Great to see Mike logging and look forward to running
w/ Lea, Rose and Mike at Res #3 @ 8 on Saturday. I've added three new pix
to the log page (the one you came from to get to the update form page. 2
of Tray at Harrisburg and 1 of Mike at Hartford (w/ one of his grandsons). Refresh the
log page a mess of times and eventually you'll see 'em.

As for Saturday following Thanksgiving, I'll not be in town but I would hope
Brickyard would be runnable by then.

Lea, I can run the day after Thanksgiving. What were you thinking of - 10?
More? Less? I usually do 8-10 on Thanksgiving morning to justify eating
later in the day but I just read that the day after is actually a good time
to go longer because you're all carbed up from stuffing and sweet potatoes.
Let me know.

I ran 5 on treadmill tonight and then am doing an easy 4 Saturday morning
at Brickyard. Do I hear a rumor of 10+ at Brickyard the Friday after Thanksgiving?
I signed up for Tinsel Fun Run 1.95 miles and will send in paper application
for Chris Martins for the following week. Brent

LMC - Friday, November 18, 2011 at 13:07:32 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Did 6 on the treadmill Wed night, 5 last night.
Day after Thanksgiving (Friday, Nov. 25) - since I am not one for "Black
Friday" deals, if anyone wants to run @ Brickyard and the weather is good,
I'm up for 10-12 miles. I can be there for 8:30am, since I'll probably be
nursing a stuffing hangover.
See everyone this Saturday at 8am. Tracy - you've got me thinking about the
MA marathon!

tlv - Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 03:15:59 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

6.2 again today but at an 8:49 pace. Heading to NJ for the weekend and very
much looking forward to meeting Steve Burton (AKA Jason Morgan, General Hospital)!

So far, Mari and Lea are interested in Worcester. It's about 1 hour, 40
min. from my house. However, my SIL lives in Paxton, Mass. - about 10 miles
away.

Lea, I'm in for Black Friday and 8:30 a.m. sounds good. Have a great weekend
everyone!

bms - Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 16:31:18 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I ran 4.2 at Brickyard Road today and finished with three strides. Path in
excellent shape. No signs posted or any other warnings. Many other walkers,
bikers and runners. I hesitate to consider the barriers to mean no running;
it may not be until spring that Farmington public works department realizes
they have 10 barriers missing. I would be interested in meeting at 830am
the Friday after thanksgiving at Brickyard for 10+. I have 5 mile race tomorrow.
Happy holidays everyone. Brent

MCT - Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 00:15:04 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I still haven't been to Brickyard for the run and haven't met all of you but
did enjoy this morning in Wethersfield. Good run and trying to keep up with
Lee is a good challenge. 8+ miles this morning on a perfect day. I will be
in Chicago next Saturday but may check out that long run on Black Friday.
I'll decide during the week. Tomorrow(Sunday) I'm doing a small 5K in Terryville.
Very hilly course. Mike

MCT - Monday, November 21, 2011 at 16:24:07 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I ran in the Terryville Harvest Trot 5K on Sunday. It was actually 2.95 miles
and a very small race. Very hilly and I finished in 22m 34s. A couple of
other Hartford Track members were there like Ben Matthis but only 38 people
entered.
Running on Thanksgiving Day is a challenge because we host the whole family
in the afternoon for the feast. I help with cooking y handling the turkeys
and potatoes. My wife warned me to be home in time to cook! So the only
race I can do must have an early start. The perfect rcae is the Malibu Fitness
5K in Farmington which starts at 6:45(Turkeys go in the oven at 8:30am.)
The birds will be on schedule since its 5 miles from my house.

On Friday I will probably do Brickyard with the group since Saturday I'll
be in Chicago.....and running.

Hello everyone. After a check-up today, I learned that I have three broken
ribs from my fall in Collinsville on Saturday morning. I also have a knee
injury, although the swelling has gone down considerably. So, I will be on
an indefinite running "vacation" but will continue to follow the blog. Lessons
learned-run with identification and don't hesitate to go to the ER if your
instincts tell you something is very wrong. Dave has a slight meniscal tear,
but the doctor thinks it has been around for some time and was not a result
of the run in New Haven. He should be running more regularly soon.

Ran in Ewing New Jersey this morning near Princeton. On a business trip and
I stayed near some nice neighborhoods with little traffic. Garmin map here->

30-40/week at this stage in my training for the Hyannis marathon in February.
Tomorrow back in Burlington.

Hi All,

Yesterday - 6.2 m/8:52 pace
Today - 6.2 m/9:53 pace (with 4 hill repeats about .25 miles long)
Can you tell I like the 6.2 distance? Just on a 10K kick right now.

Barbara, sorry you got banged up so badly and hope you have a speedy recovery.
Good advice about going to the ER - I can't believe you were walking around
with broken ribs and didn't know it!

Well, I emailed Chris Deming today and told him I would run the Roxbury Marathon
on Dec. 10th (hence, the hill repeats). That will be my 3rd marathon in
56 days. Hopefully, I will not be crippled when it's all said and done.

MCT - Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:47:57 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

5.69 miles in the cold windy rain this morning. 8:54 average pace. I don't
mind the rain and cold but puddle dodging is tough. I'm always afraid that
a puddle is actually a pothole and I'll sprain or break something. Tomorrow
I'm running the Malibu Fitness 5K in Farmington. This race is actually on
roads I normally train on so I expect a good finish time.

lrb - Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 13:36:49 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran 6 easy on the Newington High School track yesterday w/ Rose. Am taking
today off. Will run the Barton, VT 5K tomorrow morning with a bunch of fast
friends.

So sorry to hear of your injury Barb. Take care. You'll be back.

Tracy - you're a machine. I'm not sure how many cylinders you're working
w/ but ... :-) Are you running Malibu w/ Rose and Mike? (This would be one
way to actually meet the guy!)

Here's what I know about upcoming weekend (will duplicate on the blog proper
for those who don't come here ...)

Rose will run Highcrest on Friday and invites Lynda Jaeger to join her if
she can - 8 AM.

Brent, Tracy and Mike look like they're doing Brickyard on Friday @ 8-8:30
AM. 2nd opportunity for Tray to meet Mike. Brickyard is fairly clear as far
as I know. But remember Barb's experience in the Collinsville area and BE
CAREFUL!!!

I'll be in Vermont. Not sure when I'm coming back.

Not sure if anybody'll be @ Brickyard on Saturday. Not sure what Lea's plans
are.

Thanksgiving morning run to get a jump on all those calories to be consumed
later. Ran 9.5 m/9:28 pace. Felt really awesome but then knee started bothering

Ran the Malibu Fitness 5K in Farmington. Rose ran as well. My time was 24m36s
which is a personal best for me. Felt great. My pace by results was 8/mile.
I placed 155 of 718 finishers. 18th of 71 in the 50-59 class. Nice flat course
that was completely blocked so no traffic. Some black ice in spots. It was
early enough so I got home to do the annual cooking and prep for our family
function. Tomorrow I will be at Brickyard for @10 miles. Easy pace as well
just to get a good long run in. Now off to eat Turkey.

MCT - Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 16:25:26 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Finally ran with the Brickyard group......at Brickyard. Beautiful section
of the "rails to trails" I hadn't seen yet. Tray, Bret, and Lea is was fun
doing the 11 miles with you. I look forward to many more. We took it easy
with our pace hovering around 10min/mile for about 8 miles then we picked
it up for negative splits in the last three. Tray and Bret kept going after
11 so I don't know how far they went. Now off to a week in Chicago for a
meeting but plan some serious runs around the Windy City.

so well @ Malibu. Good to catch up w/ Lani who will be taking a much deserved
vacation next week and travelling to Florida, Arizona and Hawaii. She's running
the Honolulu Marathon on December 11th!

I missed the fact that Mary Almy ran Malibu (and bettered her time from last

bms - Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 18:22:54 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

I did 12 with the Brickyard Group Friday (although Tray's GPS said 14 and
it makes you wonder if her logs are actual time or imagined). After finishing
house hold chores, at 11:30am Saturday I put on shorts and enjoyed 8 miles
of bike paths and groomed trails with sunlight and 60 degrees. Boy do I hate
treadmills. Brent.

Ran in Chicago today. Did 5.5 miles around Grant and Millennium Parks in the
rain but the temp was a nice 56f. Garmin link:

Average pace was 9:17 all flat. Its great to run in this city because of
huge parks, wide sidewalks, and you can run along Lake Michigan which seems
like an ocean. I will run early in the morning for the week which is even
better because its all lit up and no traffic. The weather looks good for
the rest of the week.

tlv - Monday, November 28, 2011 at 00:31:08 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Okay, just spent 20-30 min. trying to figure out Garmin Connect so please
look at my data! I tried to run a hilly course to give me practice with
both uphill and downhill running. I was shocked to see my pace at 9:06 for
the whole 6.2 miles. Obviously, I flew down the hills but I actually did
okay maintaining a steady pace up the hills too. The only problem - I have
to do that for 20 more miles on marathon day! Ugh!

Barbara, glad you're feeling better. Thanks for the report on the new section
of the trail.

Mike, be careful of sidewalks. Worst surface to run on in terms of impact
on the body. Also, I've heard of several cases of people falling on sidewalks
due to the unevenness.

Hi everyone... Chip here, finally reporting in! It's been interesting to
read everyone's reports. I enjoyed seeing all the progress, Garmin maps
and "movies." I really enjoyed the Chariots of Fire music you posted on
11/9 Lee! Good luck to some of you who are recovering, too. Not to repeat,
but it's been a while for me with any run posting at all. I now have a
working computer. I've been done with jury duty for a while now and JUST
purchased a Garmin 305 with the HR monitor on Black Friday at a good discount!
Yesss! It should arrive sometime between 12/2 and 12/8. Been getting stronger
with biking to the train station (2.6 miles each way for about 3 months now)
-- sometimes pushing it hard to try to build up endurance and quads more.
Ran a 5.0m race in Fitchburg, MA one week ago. Placed 6th in my 60-69 age
group (not 4th as I had thought earlier) Pace was 7:50/m. Time was 39:08
for 5.0m.
Ran too much while hitchhiking at the last minute to get TO the start of
the race. Raced again on Thanksgiving day here in my home town of Ayer.
It was a 5K. Placed 4th out of 27 in my division this time and felt good
after. Time was 23:08 w/ a 7:28/m pace. THOUGHT the race was coming to
the end point so I sprinted hard for the last quarter mile -- only to learn
there was a major 90 degree left turn JUST before the huge American flag
at the finish line -- which took us way further -- maybe another 1/2 to 3/4
mile. Ugh.

Have decided to take a bus down to CT to join those who will be running the
Christopher Martins 5K Christmas run on Sunday, 12/11. Just got my ticket
tonight! Maybe I'll have my Garmin then. Anyway, that's about it. I hope
to see some of you again before the new year rings in and or all the snow
begins to build up in CT.

The rain stopped in Chicago so this morning was great running weather. Temps
around 32f. I did 7 miles today going down to Soldiers Field Football Stadium
then up and down a bunch of city blocks. Average pace was 9:38 but it has
to be wrong because my pace while running jumped dramatically twice. Not
sure if the buildings affect the Garmin but I was running steady at about
9:16 when it jumped to 12:30 and a second time to 10:47. For no reason. I
was steady and its all flat without hills. Therefore my average pace should
be about 9:16.

Ran an easy 4.0 late this morning in 36:29. Felt good after. Pace was 9:07/m.
Took a scenic route. Feeling like I may be able to do about 25 to 30 miles
(running) this week, but will try to keep it bit slow(er) to be safe on calves.
Weather was seasonably warm this AM with 58 degree temp. Weight was 148
before run. Would like to get it to 140 in about 2 months. Here's
a recap of Thanksgiving Week for biking a running. Races are in yellow.

Unseasonably warm is an understatement, Chip! I think it's around 65 here.
How unusual to see 3 seasons blended in CT - an abundance of leaves on the
ground, a summerlike temperature, and Christmas decorations. All we need
are a couple of daffodils to complete the seasons. LOL

Anyway, I digress. My planned leisurely 5 mile run at a 9:30 or slower pace
turned into a tempo run at an 8:43 pace. Relatively flat with only 1 hill
to speak of, for which my legs were grateful.

Who is planning to run the 1.95 mile run in Berlin on Sat.? Brent said he
would be there. Anyone else?

I ran a slow 3 yesterday. Today I intended to run to Maple Street and back
(about 9.5) but spotted a guy running when I was just past Coppermill that
looked like he might be Michael Wardian (won Hartford in 2010, placed 3rd
this year and won the MDI marathon the very next day). Rose has been talking
about seeing this guy ever since October 15th and is 99.9 % sure it is Michael
Wardian. He lists his address as Arlington VA so I'm not totally convinced
this is the same guy. Anyway I turned around and chased him for 2 miles.
I never caught him but also never lost sight. You can see my pace picked
up in the last 2 miles. He was picking up recyclable bottles and eventually
stopped at the intersection of Collier and Prospect, slipped into a white
car that was waiting for him and disappeared.

Just ran 4 miles today. I stayed out by the parks and sure enough, the Garmin
was more accurate. The buildings have an effect. I averaged 9:18/mile. Very
windy today with steady winds around 25mph and gusts to 40. I hate running
in the wind.

ceb - Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 12:10:32 (GMT) (subtract 4 for local time)

Ran 4 miles in 39:00. Pace was 9:45. Ran at 5:30 am. Mild temps. Wore
my reflective vest. Some soreness in light left calf. Doesn't feel too
serious. Felt a little sluggish today.

7.2 miles this morning with an average pace of 9:30. Went south in Chicago
on Michigan Avenue towards the convention center. Nice run, no wind. Met
an old colleague who was running so we ran together for a while and talked
about old times. Now off to another day at the convention. Not sure what
I'm doing this weekend yet.

Ran 5 miles/9:43 pace. One mile of the run was up the mountain towards Wolcott.
Hill is 10% grade. Check out the cool Garmin elevation profile. I literally
ran up and then down a mountain:

Looks like I won't be able to do the Tinsel Run on Sat. Boo hoo. Barry
won't be around until afternoon. Good luck to Lee and Brent and whoever
else decides to run.
